{"id":183615,"date":"2022-05-10T20:58:24","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T15:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=183615"},"modified":"2022-05-10T20:58:24","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T15:28:24","slug":"explained-what-new-finds-at-harappan-site-could-mean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-what-new-finds-at-harappan-site-could-mean\/","title":{"rendered":"Explained: What new finds at Harappan site could mean"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/archaeological-survey-of-india-asi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Archaeological Survey of India(ASI)<\/a> has made significant discoveries at the Rakhigarhi site.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Harappan Civilization<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Archaeologically, the span of the Harappan Civilisation is subdivided into three periods \u2014 early (3300 BC to 2600 BC), mature (2600 BC to 1900 BC), and late (1900 BC to 1700 BC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five urban sites \u2014 Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, Ganweriwala (now in Pakistan) and Rakhigarhi and Dholavira (India) \u2014 have been identified as centres of the Civilisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Rakhigarhi?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rakhigarhi is a village and an archaeological site belonging to the Indus Valley Civilisation in the Hisar District of Haryana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was part of the mature phase of the Indus Valley Civilisation, dating to 2600-1900 BCE. Pots and other artefacts were found buried next to the remains, part of funerary rituals back. DNA samples might provide clues about the ancestry and food habits of people who lived in the region thousands of years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Signs of Settlement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This is the first time excavations have been done on Mound No. 3 which has revealed what appears to be \u201can aristocratic settlement\u201d;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In all Harappan sites excavated so far, there have been similar signs of three tiers of habitation \u2014 \u2018common settlements\u2019 with mud-brick walls, \u2018elite settlement\u2019 with burnt brick walls alongside mud-brick walls, and possible \u2018middle-rung settlements\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jewellery Unit:\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A large number of steatite beads, beads of semi-precious stones, shells, and objects made of agate and carnelian have been recovered. This discovery signifies that trading was also done from the city.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Other noteworthy finds include<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> steatite seals, terracotta bangles, terracotta unbaked sealing with relief of elephants and the Harappan script.
