It provided exceptions to the IPC provisions.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559737&quot;:450,&quot;335559739&quot;:150,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In case of abortion in certain circumstances, the permission to terminate the pregnancy was sought from the judiciary. In various case, the courts had ruled that the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">right of a pregnant<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> woman to decide on the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">continuation<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of her pregnancy is a part of her <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">right to health<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">right to life<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">. Further, the<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> medical opinion<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of the medical practitioner registered under the MTP Act is also required.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559737&quot;:450,&quot;335559739&quot;:150,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(1) Up to <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">20 weeks<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of gestational age, opinion of a single registered medical practitioner.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559737&quot;:450,&quot;335559739&quot;:150,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(2) From 20 weeks up to <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">24 weeks,<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> the opinion of <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">two registered medical<\/span><\/b> <b><span data-contrast=\"none\">practitioners<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> is required. This is applicable to women, either a survivor of sexual assault\/rape or incest, minors, women with major physical disabilities, mentally-ill women, foetal malformation incompatible with life, change of marital status during the ongoing pregnancy, i.e., either widowhood or divorce, etc.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559737&quot;:450,&quot;335559739&quot;:150,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">(3) <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Beyond 24 weeks<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, the opinion of a <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Medical Board<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> as set up in each State, as per the law, is required.
