The World Meteorological Organization(WMO)<\/a> has released the Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update Report.<\/span><\/p>\n Globally<\/b><\/p>\n Temperature reaching 1.5 \u00b0C:<\/b> There is a 50:50 chance of the annual average global temperature temporarily reaching 1.5 \u00b0C above the pre-industrial level for at least one of the next five years.<\/span><\/p>\n \u2013 <\/span>The probability of breaching 1.5 \u00b0C was close to zero back in 2015 when the Paris Agreement was adopted, but it has risen steadily since then to 50% now.<\/span><\/p>\n Warmest Year:<\/b> There is a 93% likelihood of at least one year between 2022-2026 becoming the warmest on record and dislodging 2016 from the top ranking.<\/span><\/p>\n La Nina:<\/b> Back-to-back La Ni\u00f1a events at the start and end of 2021 had a cooling effect on global temperatures, but this is only temporary and does not reverse the long-term global warming trend.<\/span><\/p>\n \u2013 Moreover, any development of an El Ni\u00f1o event would immediately fuel temperatures, as it did in 2016, which is until now the warmest year on record.<\/span><\/p>\n The year 2022 will be cooler (compared to the 1991 \u2013 2020 average) over India, along with Alaska and Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n One of the primary reasons for the lowering of temperatures over India from next year is the possible increase in rainfall activity in this decade.<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/b> India Meteorological Department (IMD)<\/a> had also said that the Indian monsoon will soon enter the positive epoch after remaining under a negative epoch since 1971.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>The post is based on the article <\/span>\u201c<\/b>WMO report: Below normal mercury in India from 2022 to 2026<\/b>\u201d<\/b> published in<\/span> Indian Express<\/b> on<\/span> 12th May 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
