It compiles information on inequities across sectors of health, education, household characteristics and the labour market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Focus Areas:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The report looks at five key areas that influence the nature and experience of inequality. These are 1) income distribution, 2) labour market dynamics, 3) health, 4) education and 5) household characteristics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source of Data: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report is based on the data derived from various rounds of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), National Family and Health Survey (NFHS) and UDISE+.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings of the report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_185365\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185365\" style=\"width: 527px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-185365 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1-690.jpeg?resize=527%2C351&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"State of Inequality in India Report\" width=\"527\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1-690.jpeg?w=660&amp;ssl=1 660w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1-690.jpeg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-185365\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: TOI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Income Inequality: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The share of the top 1% accounts for 6-7% of the total incomes earned while the top 10% accounts for one-third of all incomes earned. For instance, the salary of Rs 25,000 is already amongst the top 10% of total incomes earned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Employment Categories: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019-20, among different employment categories, the highest percentage was self-employed workers followed by regular salaried workers and casual workers. The share of self-employed workers also happens to be the highest in the lowest income categories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Unemployment Rate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The country\u2019s unemployment rate is 4.8% (2019-20), and the worker population ratio is 46.8%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Education Infrastructure: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Till 2019-20, 95% of schools have functional toilet facilities on the school premises and 80.16% of schools have functional electricity connections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Health Infrastructure:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been a considerable improvement in increasing the health Infrastructural capacity with a targeted focus on rural areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 For instance, the results of NFHS-4 (2015-16) and NFHS-5 (2019-21) have shown that 58.6% of women received antenatal check-ups in the first trimester in 2015-16, which increased to 70% by 2019-21.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Gross Enrolment Ratio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has increased between 2018-19 and 2019-20 at the primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Household Conditions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to NFHS-5 (2019-21), 97% of households have electricity access, 70% have improved access to sanitation, and 96% have access to safe drinking water.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the recommendations given by the report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>a)<\/strong> G<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overnment should come out with a guaranteed employment scheme to create jobs for the urban unemployed, <strong>b) <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A universal basic income should be introduced, <strong>c)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Higher funds should be allocated towards the social sector to reduce inequality in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>The State of Inequality in India Report released<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>PIB <\/b>on<b> 18th May 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
