Importance of the meeting<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At present the <\/span>global attention<\/span><\/b> has been shifted to the Ukraine war, sanctions and their economic impact. Therefore, the US has abandoned Afghanistan to the <\/span>Taliban<\/span><\/b>. Therefore, SCO\u2019s RAT member countries, including those from Pakistan and China are focussing on Afghanistan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Situation in Afghanistan<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a <\/span>virtual collapse<\/span><\/b> of <\/span>administrative structures<\/span><\/b>, the <\/span>local economy<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Healthcare facilities<\/span><\/b> etc. Around half of the Afghanistan\u2019s population is facing acute hunger.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>humanitarian<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>social condition<\/span><\/b> in Afghanistan has become terrible. For example, Girls can\u2019t attend secondary education, women can\u2019t get a driving licence and a job in the market. The <\/span>Afghan refugees<\/span><\/b> are pouring into neighbouring countries like Iran and Pakistan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u2019s concern<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The security situation in Afghanistan affects all SCO members, including India.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Islamic State<\/span><\/b> and the <\/span>Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan<\/span><\/b> have stepped up their activities on both sides of the <\/span>Durand Line.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This jeopardises India\u2019s <\/span>painstaking investments<\/span><\/b> in Afghanistan over the last two decades.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pakistan always tries to block Indian moves to work more closely with Tehran to maintain a <\/span>strategic foothold<\/span><\/b> in the region.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the governments are reluctant to deal with the Taliban. Therefore, there is absence of any <\/span>concerted global effort<\/span><\/b> to help.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Way Forward<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India should help itself by continuing to <\/span>send humanitarian<\/span><\/b> aid<\/span><\/b> to Afghanistan despite the Taliban regime.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the government should also expedite <\/span>emergency visas<\/span><\/b> for Afghan nationals.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
