{"id":185756,"date":"2022-05-21T20:40:40","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T15:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=185756"},"modified":"2022-05-21T20:40:40","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T15:10:40","slug":"explained-project-wardec-indias-upcoming-ai-powered-wargame-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-project-wardec-indias-upcoming-ai-powered-wargame-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Explained: Project WARDEC \u2013 India\u2019s upcoming AI-powered wargame centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Army Training Command has signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) with Gandhinagar-based <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/prime-minister-dedicated-the-national-defence-university-to-the-nation-and-addressed-its-first-convocation-at-gandhinagar-gujarat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) to develop a \u2018Wargame Research and Development Centre(WARDEC) in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is WARDEC?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WARDEC will be a first-of-its-kind simulation-based training center in India that will use artificial intelligence(AI) to design virtual reality wargames.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Purpose<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The centre will be used by the Army to train its soldiers and test their strategies through metaverse-enabled gameplay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>How will the simulation exercises play out at the center? <\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soldiers will test their skills in the metaverse where their surroundings will be simulated using a combination of virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality(AR).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The centre will come up in a military zone in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The centre will help soldiers prepare for wars as well as counter-terror and counter-insurgency operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>How many countries use such wargaming drills?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the 9\/11 attacks, the use of information technology-enabled wargaming is preferred by several countries like the US, Israel, and the UK to prepare for possibilities in case of terror attacks or war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, in 2014, several world leaders including former German chancellor Angela Merkel, former US president Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping played a war simulation game during the Hague Summit about how to react in case of a nuclear attack.
