{"id":186987,"date":"2022-05-28T22:13:30","date_gmt":"2022-05-28T16:43:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=186987"},"modified":"2022-05-28T22:13:30","modified_gmt":"2022-05-28T16:43:30","slug":"ministry-of-science-and-technology-inaugurates-indias-first-lavender-festival-in-bhaderwah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ministry-of-science-and-technology-inaugurates-indias-first-lavender-festival-in-bhaderwah\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Science and Technology inaugurates India\u2019s \u2018First Lavender Festival&#8217; in Bhaderwah"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5>What is the News?<\/h5>\n<p>Union Minister has inaugurated India\u2019s \u2018First Lavender Festival&#8217; in Bhaderwah and termed Bhaderwah as the birthplace of <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/lavender-cultivation-under-csir-iiims-aroma-mission-to-be-started-in-ramban-as-a-part-of-purple-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India&#8217;s Purple Revolution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: India\u2019s first National Institute of High Altitude Medicine is also being built in Bhaderwah.<\/p>\n<h5>What is Lavender?<\/h5>\n<p>Lavandula (common name lavender) is a genus of 47 known species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae.<\/p>\n<p>The flowers may be blue, violet or lilac in the wild species, occasionally blackish purple or yellowish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cultivation<\/strong>: Lavender cultivation has employed about 5,000 farmers and young entrepreneurs in geographically remote areas of J&amp;K. More than 1,000 farming families are cultivating it on more than 200 acres.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Lavender Cultivation\u2019 is getting promoted under <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/question\/which-of-the-following-statement-about-purple-revolution-is-are-correct-1-it-was-launched-by-the-union-ministry-of-science-technology-through-the-csirs-aroma-mission-2-its-aim-is-to-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CSIR-IIIM\u2019s Aroma Mission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications<\/strong>: Lavender has been used over centuries in traditional medicine and cosmetics. For instance, the main product is Lavender oil which sells for at least Rs. 10,000 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>Lavender water, which separates from lavender oil, is used to make incense sticks.<\/p>\n<p>Hydrosol is formed after distillation from the flowers. This is used to make soaps and room fresheners.<\/p>\n<h5>What is the status of lavender cultivation under the CSIR-AROMA Mission?<\/h5>\n<p>CSIR-IIIM introduced lavender to farmers in Doda, Rama, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The mission provided free quality planting material and an end-to-end technology package for cultivation, processing, value addition and marketing of the Lavender crop to the farmers.<\/p>\n<p>CSIR-IIIM also installed 50 distillation units at different locations across J&amp;K under CSIR-Aroma Mission.<\/p>\n<p><b>Source:\u00a0<\/b>The post is based on the article<b> \u201cMinistry of Science and Technology inaugurates India\u2019s \u2018First Lavender Festival&#8217; in Bhaderwah\u201d <\/b>published in <b>PIB <\/b>on<b> 26th May 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
