{"id":189415,"date":"2022-06-08T20:38:28","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T15:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=189415"},"modified":"2022-06-08T20:38:28","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T15:08:28","slug":"environment-performance-index-india-fails-green-test-finishes-at-bottom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/environment-performance-index-india-fails-green-test-finishes-at-bottom\/","title":{"rendered":"Environment Performance Index: India fails green test, finishes at bottom"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Environment Performance Index(EPI) 2022 has been released.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the Environment Performance Index(EPI)?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Type:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> EPI is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biennial index.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Started in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: 2002 as an Environmental Sustainability Index by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2022 EPI is a joint project of the Yale Center and Columbia\u2019s Earth Institute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Parameters:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using 40 performance indicators across 11 issue categories, the EPI ranks 180 countries on climate change performance, environmental health and ecosystem vitality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These indicators provide a gauge at a national scale of how close countries are to established environmental policy targets. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, EPI rankings indicate which countries are best addressing environmental challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings of the Index?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Topped by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Denmark<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>India:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India has been ranked 180th in the index. This is the last among 180 countries that have been ranked. In 2020, India was ranked 168th.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The index has said that India has prioritized economic growth over environmental sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Observations: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per EPI estimates, only a handful of countries including Denmark and the United Kingdom are on track to meet net zero-emission goals by 2050.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nations such as China, India and Russia are headed in the wrong direction with rapidly rising greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The index projects that four countries \u2014 China, India, the United States, and Russia \u2014 will account for over 50% of residual global greenhouse gas emissions in 2050 if the current trends hold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cEnvironment Performance Index: India fails green test, finishes at bottom\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> Indian Express <\/b><b>on<\/b><b> 8th June 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
