It is one aspect of Huyen Langlon (art of war or method of safeguarding). Its other aspect is Sarit Sarak that involves unarmed combat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Silambam: Tamil Nadu<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silambam is an ancient martial art form of Tamil Nadu.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This style is mentioned in Tamil Sangam literature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silam<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018 (in Tamil) stands for hills and \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mambam<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018 stands for bamboo from the hills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Kalaripayattu: Kerala<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kalaripayattu is a famous Indian martial art from Kerala. It is one of the oldest fighting systems. It is practised in most of the parts of south India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The place where this martial art is practiced is called a &#8216;Kalari&#8217;. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes strikes, kicks and some weapon-based practised<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Footwork patterns are the most important key in this art form<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Musti Yuddha: Varanasi<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is basically an unarmed technique of fighting. This technique of the martial art basically belongs to the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this martial art, the use of punches, kicks, knees and elbows are very prominent. It teaches how to protect oneself without the use of arms and ammunition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Gatka: Punjab<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gatka is a traditional martial art form associated with the Sikh gurus. It imbibes sword and stick fighting skills and self-control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is believed to have originated when the 6th Sikh Guru Hargobind adopted \u2018Kirpan\u2019 for self-defence during the Mughal era.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Kathi Samu: Andhra Pradesh<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathi Samu is an ancient and historical martial art which originated in Andhra Pradesh. Kathi basically means sword and Kathi Samu is a martial art which is fighting with swords.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Garidi&#8217; is the name given to the location where Kathi Samu is performed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Kathi Samu, the stick fight known as &#8216;vairi&#8217; plays a significant part as a precursor to the real sword fight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other essential components of sword skills include &#8216;Gareja,&#8217; in which a person holds four swords, two in each hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Sqay: Kashmir<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sqay is a martial art that belongs to Kashmir. It is a kind of sword-fighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A curved single-edged sword and a shield are used by armed sqay.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Mardani khel: Maharashtra<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u200b\u200bMardani khel is an armed martial art from Maharashtra.
