{"id":191037,"date":"2022-06-17T20:33:32","date_gmt":"2022-06-17T15:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=191037"},"modified":"2022-06-17T20:33:32","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T15:03:32","slug":"a-closer-look-at-the-reuters-institute-digital-news-report-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/a-closer-look-at-the-reuters-institute-digital-news-report-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"A closer look at the Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism has released the Digital News Report, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings of the Digital News Report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Firstly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people are trusting news content less and less.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Secondly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consumption of traditional news media declined in nearly all the countries surveyed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Thirdly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the proportion of news consumers who say that they \u201cavoid news\u201d has risen sharply across countries with the report describing the phenomenon as \u201cselective avoidance\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fourthly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">despite small increases in the proportion of people willing to pay for online news\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(mostly in richer countries), the growth in digital subscriptions for news content seems to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be levelling off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fifthly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smartphones have become the dominant way in which most people first access news in the morning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Lastly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook remained the most-used social network for news. But it is TikTok that has become the fastest-growing network. However, TikTok is currently banned in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What does the report say about India?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ndia is a strongly mobile-focused market.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">72% of the survey respondents accessed news through smartphones and 35% did so via computers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 84% of the Indian respondents sourced news online, 63% from social media, 59% from television, and 49% from print.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">YouTube (53%) and WhatsApp (51%) were the top social media platforms for sourcing news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India registered a small increase in the level of trust with 41% trusting news overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A minority of respondents &#8211; 36% and 35% &#8211; felt that legacy print brands and public broadcasters lacked undue political influence and business influence, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cA closer look at the Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2022\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> The Hindu <\/b>on<b> 14th June 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
