The US and its allies \u2014 Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the United Kingdom \u2014 have launched the \u2018Partners in the Blue Pacific\u2019 Initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n Launched by: <\/b>US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the United Kingdom\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Purpose:<\/b> It is an \u201cinformal mechanism\u201d to support Pacific islands and to boost diplomatic, and economic ties in the pacific region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Objectives<\/b>: 1) To deliver \u200b\u200b<\/span>results for the Pacific more effectively and efficiently <\/span>\u200b\u200b2) To <\/span>expand cooperation between the Pacific and the rest of the world and 3) To focus on bolstering \u201cPacific regionalism\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Priority Areas:<\/b> The areas where PBP aims to enhance cooperation with the pacific islands include climate crisis, connectivity and transportation, maritime security and protection, health, prosperity, and education.<\/span><\/p>\n China has signed a security pact with the Solomon Islands in April 2022. This deal has raised serious concerns for the US and its allies as the Chinese will be setting up a military base in the southern Pacific close to the US island territory of Guam and right next to Australia and New Zealand.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, China has also signed an agreement called the \u201cCommon Development Vision\u201d with the 10 Pacific nations.
