{"id":194772,"date":"2022-07-08T20:02:03","date_gmt":"2022-07-08T14:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=194772"},"modified":"2022-07-08T20:02:03","modified_gmt":"2022-07-08T14:32:03","slug":"sofi-report-2022-world-is-not-doing-enough-to-end-hunger-by-2030-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sofi-report-2022-world-is-not-doing-enough-to-end-hunger-by-2030-un\/","title":{"rendered":"SOFI Report 2022: World is not doing enough to end hunger by 2030: UN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>World is not doing enough to end hunger by 2030: UN<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> Down To Earth <\/b>on <b>7th July 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World(SOFI) 2022 Report has been released.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World(SOFI) Report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Published by: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development(IFAD), the United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF), UN World Food Programme(WFP) and the World Health Organization(WHO).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings of the report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<h6><b>Global findings<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><b>Hunger: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many as<\/span><b> 828 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> people were affected by hunger in 2021 \u2013 <\/span><b>46 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> people more from a year earlier and <\/span><b>150 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more from 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 In terms of percentage, the proportion of people affected by hunger jumped in 2020 and continued to rise in 2021, to <\/span><b>9.8% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the world population.This compares with <\/span><b>8%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2019 and <\/span><b>9.3%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Gender Gap in Food Security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The gender gap in food insecurity continued to rise in 2021 &#8211; <\/span><b>31.9%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of women in the world were moderately or severely food insecure, compared to <\/span><b>27.6% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of men \u2013 a gap of more than 4 percentage points, compared with 3 percentage points in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Healthy Diet:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Almost 3.1 billion people could not afford a healthy diet in 2020, up from 112 million in 2019 showing the effects of inflation on consumer food prices. The inflation stemmed from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures put in place to contain it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Malnutrition:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An estimated <\/span><b>45 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> children under the age of five were suffering from wasting, the deadliest form of malnutrition which increases children\u2019s risk of death by up to 12 times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Furthermore, <\/span><b>149 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> children under the age of five had stunted growth and development due to a chronic lack of essential nutrients in their diets while <\/span><b>39 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were overweight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Findings related to India<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><b>Undernourishment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The number of undernourished people in India declined to 224.3 million in 2019\u201321 from 247.8 million in 2004-06.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 In percentage terms, the prevalence of undernourishment in the total population in India stood at 21.6% in 2004-06 and declined to 16.3% in 2019-21.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Healthy Diet:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In India, people who were unable to afford a healthy diet touched 973.3 million in 2020 or nearly 70.5%, up from 948.6 million in 2019 (69.4%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Stunting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The prevalence of stunting in children under 5 years of age declined to 30.9% in 2020 from 41.7% in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Overweight: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prevalence of overweight children under five years of age was 1.9% in 2020 from 2.4% in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Obesity: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prevalence of obesity in India&#8217;s adult population increased to 3.9% in 2016 from 3.1% in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Anaemic Women: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of anaemic women aged 15 to 49 years declined marginally from 53.2% in 2012 to 53% in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cWorld is not doing enough to end hunger by 2030: UN\u201d published in Down To Earth on 7th July 2022.
