Whatever an MP says is subject to the discipline of the Rules of Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 380 (\u201cExpunction\u201d) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha says: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf the Speaker is of opinion that words have been used in the debate which are defamatory or indecent or unparliamentary or undignified, the Speaker may, while exercising discretion order that such words be expunged from the proceedings of the House\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 381 says:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThe portion of the proceedings of the House so expunged shall be marked by asterisks and an explanatory footnote shall be inserted in the proceedings as follows: \u2018Expunged as ordered by the Chair\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are Unparliamentary Words?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are phrases and words, literally in thousands, both in English and in Indian languages, that are considered \u201cunparliamentary\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Presiding Officers \u2014 Speaker of Lok Sabha and Chairperson of Rajya Sabha \u2014 have the job of keeping such words out of Parliament\u2019s records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For their reference, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has brought out a bulky tome titled \u2018Unparliamentary Expressions\u2019.
