What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Union Minister of Sports has informed that a number of rural <\/span>and indigenous\/tribal games have been identified under the \u2018Promotion of rural and indigenous\/tribal games\u2019 component of Khelo India Scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n

What steps have been taken by the Government of India to promote indigenous games?<\/b><\/h5>\n

There are a number of indigenous sports being played in different States as per their culture and tradition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sports is a state subject. <\/b>The responsibility to promote indigenous sports in the country and conduct special training programmes rests primarily with the respective State\/Union Territory Governments.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Union Government supplements their efforts. <\/span>For instance, the Sports Ministry runs a Central Sector Scheme, namely, the <\/span>Khelo India Scheme. <\/b><\/a>One of the components of the scheme is the \u2018<\/span>Promotion of rural and indigenous\/tribal games\u2019<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This component is specifically dedicated to the development and promotion of rural and indigenous\/tribal games in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indigenous games of <\/span>Mallakhamb, Kalaripayattu, Gatka, Thang-Ta, Yogasana and Silambam<\/b><\/a> have been identified for promotion under this component.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grants are sanctioned for infrastructure development, equipment support, the appointment of coaches, training of coaches and scholarships under this Component.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
