{"id":198737,"date":"2022-08-04T19:34:09","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T14:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=198737"},"modified":"2022-08-04T19:35:51","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T14:05:51","slug":"concern-in-delhi-over-not-being-part-of-us-led-minerals-security-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/concern-in-delhi-over-not-being-part-of-us-led-minerals-security-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"Concern in Delhi over not being part of US-led Minerals Security Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><strong>Why in the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>India is exploring the possibilities of joining the Minerals Security Partnership.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Minerals Security Partnership<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Minerals Security Partnership is an ambitious new US-led partnership to secure supply chains of critical minerals, aimed at reducing dependency on China.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Members<\/strong>: US, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>The new grouping could focus on the supply chains of minerals such as Cobalt, Nickel, Lithium and also the 17 \u201crare earth\u201d minerals.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Significance of joining MSP for India <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Given the push of India towards Electric Vehicles, it needs to secure the supply of critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p>China has created a processing infrastructure in rare earth minerals and has acquired mines in Africa for elements such as cobalt.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Few Facts about rare Earth elements<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Rare earth comprises seventeen elements and are classified as light RE elements (LREE) and heavy RE elements (HREE).<\/p>\n<p>Some REs are available in India such as Lanthanum, Cerium, Neodymium, Praseodymium, and Samarium.<\/p>\n<p>While others such as Dysprosium, Terbium, Europium that are classified as HREE are not available in Indian deposits in extractable quantity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why in the News?
