What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) has launched the first Small Satellite Launch Vehicle(SSLV) from Sriharikota.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The vehicle carried an Earth Observation Satellite named EOS-02 and a co-passenger satellite, \u2018<\/span>Azaadi SAT<\/span><\/a>\u2019 into low earth orbit. However, ISRO later announced that these satellites are no longer usable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why are these satellites no longer usable?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The SSLV rocket placed these satellites in an elliptical orbit instead of a circular one.<\/span><\/p>\n

An elliptical orbit is the<\/span> lowest orbit and is not stable due to the Earth\u2019s attraction force due to which the satellites could not stay in orbit and have already crashed. As a result, these satellites are no longer usable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the entire architecture of ISRO\u2019s SSLV performed well apart from the \u201canomaly\u201d that led to the mission\u2019s failure.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is SSLV?<\/b><\/h5>\n

SSLV<\/span><\/a> is India\u2019s smallest launch vehicle weighing 110 tonnes.<\/span><\/p>\n

It can carry payloads weighing up to 500 kg and deploy satellites into a 500 km low earth orbit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advantages of SSLV: <\/b>1)<\/strong> Can be assembled within 72 hours by a team of just 5-6 people. 2)<\/strong> It costs at least one-tenth of those currently in use. 3)<\/strong> It can enable a space launch from India every week. 4)<\/strong> It caters specifically to the small and micro satellites that constitute over 90% of all satellites being launched these days.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
