{"id":200200,"date":"2022-08-16T19:03:15","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T13:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=200200"},"modified":"2022-08-16T19:03:15","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T13:33:15","slug":"panel-moots-district-level-survey-to-bring-more-children-into-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/panel-moots-district-level-survey-to-bring-more-children-into-adoption\/","title":{"rendered":"Panel moots district-level survey to bring more children into adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201c<\/b><b>Panel moots district-level survey to bring more children into adoption<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> The Hindu <\/b>on<b> 16th August 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justice have tabled the report titled \u201c<\/span><b>Review of Guardianship and Adoption Laws<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings of the report?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Too few Children&#8217;s available for adoption in India in spite of millions of orphans: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are only 2,430 children available for adoption by the Child Welfare Committees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 On the other hand, there are around 27,939 prospective parents registered with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/central-adoption-resource-authority-cara\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Child Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for adoption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 The waiting time for adoption too has increased to three years from one year in the past five years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Reason: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the 2020 Orphan Report of IHH Humanitarian and Social Research Center(INSAMER) there were an estimated 3.1 crore orphans (defined in the report as loss of either or both parents) in India. <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason why there are only 2,430 children available for adoption in a country is because of the failure to bring more children in need of care into the government\u2019s safety net.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Suggestions given by the report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: District-level surveys should be conducted to proactively identify orphaned and abandoned children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 A monthly meeting chaired by the District Magistrate should be held in every district to ensure that orphan and abandoned children found begging in the streets are produced before the Child Welfare Committee and are made available for adoption at the earliest.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cPanel moots district-level survey to bring more children into adoption\u201d published in The Hindu on 16th August 2022.
