{"id":20069,"date":"2018-05-15T16:11:52","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T10:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=20069"},"modified":"2018-05-15T21:16:52","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T15:46:52","slug":"creating-jobs-for-women-renewable-energy-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/creating-jobs-for-women-renewable-energy-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating jobs for women: Renewable energy sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Context: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A report by McKinsey Global Institute states that India has a huge potential to create jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for women in the growing market of Renewable Energy.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>The Scope:<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The government of India has committed to install 175 GW of Renewable Energy by 2022.<\/li>\n<li>Several of these installations will be in rural areas, where a large number of the poor live.<\/li>\n<li>So the new projects can be planned in such a manner that can create good quality jobs for women in these areas.<\/li>\n<li>The Authors discusses about the various ways for government and private sector to support the inclusion of more women in the Renewable Energy sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Reasons behind poor labour force participation of women in the Renewable Energy sector:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The temporary nature of the labour intensive\u00a0 civil masonry work,<\/li>\n<li>Issues of\u00a0safety and support systems in the sites,<\/li>\n<li>Lack of \u00a0formal education and training for women, and<\/li>\n<li>Lack of institutes that offer training to women in rural areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Steps to increase Participation:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establishment of vocational training programmes and certification schemes for women,<\/li>\n<li>Skill development and capacity building of women,<\/li>\n<li>Work place should be more gender sensitive,<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0E-learning facilities for\u00a0of women in remote areas can be developed, and<\/li>\n<li>Public private partnership and collaboration with civil society organisations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><u>Advantages of women participation:<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Help in poverty reduction,<\/li>\n<li>McKinsy says\u00a0GDP is expected to grow up to 60% by 2025 and<\/li>\n<li>Capacity and skill of women in rural areas will be enhanced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>McKinsey Global Institute\u2019s Report, 2015: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>McKinsey Global Institute published a report: <em>India\u2019s ascent: Five opportunities for growth and transformation.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The report looks into the opportunities for Indian economy and the implications for domestic businesses, multinational companies, and the government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Five-fold ways to create sustainable economic conditions: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. From poverty to empowerment: Acceptable living standards for all: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum acceptable living standards include spanning nutrition, water, sanitation, energy, housing, education, and healthcare.<\/li>\n<li>These gaps are to be filled in the first place to achieve the country\u2019s economic potentials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Sustainable urbanization: Building India\u2019s growth engines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To achieve sustainable growth, Indian cities will have to offer clean air and water, reliable utilities, and extensive green spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Manufacturing for India, in India:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>India has substantial opportunities to invest in value-creating businesses and to create jobs.<\/li>\n<li>Reforms and public infrastructure investments could make it easier for all types of manufacturing businesses, foreign and Indian alike, to achieve scale and efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Riding the digital wave: Harnessing technology for India\u2019s growth: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to an estimate, technologies could add $550 billion to $1 trillion a year of economic value in 2025.<\/li>\n<li>These technologies can raise productivity, improve efficiency across major sectors of the economy, and improve the provision of services such as education and healthcare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5.
