News<\/b>: Last week, an\u00a0unmanned yacht (Lady Han),\u00a0<\/b>carrying a cache of arms and AK-47 rifles, live ammunition etc. reached the shores of Maharashtra. A day later, the Mumbai Traffic Police\u2019s WhatsApp helpline number also received messages with a warning that a \u201826\/11-like terror attack\u2019 will soon be executed in Mumbai.<\/p>\n

Why is this incident a matter of concern?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The boat dodged the Indian Navy\u2019s surveillance, the Indian Coast Guard\u2019s monitoring and also slipped through Maharashtra\u2019s Coastal Police dragnet and finally reached the Maharashtra shore.<\/p>\n

The happening of this incident has all the markings of the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which resulted in the killing of more than 150 innocents and injuring hundreds in Mumbai.<\/p>\n

What are the issues in India’s maritime security?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The\u00a0Ram Pradhan Committee<\/b>\u00a0formed after the\u00a026\/11 Attack<\/b>, found that there was a clear\u00a0lack of coordination\u00a0<\/b>between the state and central intelligence and investigation agencies, including the defence forces, which resulted in the 26\/11 attack.<\/p>\n

Based on the\u00a0recommendations<\/b>\u00a0of the Committee, it was decided that\u00a0heads of all state and central agencie<\/b>s, including the defence agencies, will meet at least once in six months. This is to ensure there is a proper and seamless flow of information<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0intelligence<\/b> between all the agencies. But, in the past 13 years, this meeting has happened only once, in 2009.<\/p>\n

After the 26\/11 attacks, the\u00a0Maharashtra coastal police<\/b>\u00a0were set up to man the Maharashtra coastline. In Mumbai, coastal police stations have been established.\u00a0Amphibian vehicles were provided<\/b> to man the coastline, but these vehicles are no longer functional due to a lack of proper maintenance.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the incident is important to understand that no lessons have been learnt from the astounding failures of 26\/11.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
