{"id":206957,"date":"2022-09-21T20:21:51","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T14:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=206957"},"modified":"2022-09-21T20:21:51","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T14:51:51","slug":"china-remains-a-formidable-challenge-says-navy-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/china-remains-a-formidable-challenge-says-navy-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"China remains a formidable challenge, says Navy Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cChina remains a formidable challenge, says Navy Chief\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> The Hindu <\/b>on<b> 20th September 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chief of Naval Staff(CNS) has addressed a seminar titled <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSecurity Challenges\u201d that India faces.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key highlights from the seminar?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>China\u2019s presence in the Indian Ocean Region(IOR): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China began its Indian Ocean maritime deployment in the Indian Ocean Region(IOR) in 2008 using anti-piracy operations as the reason and since then there has been a continuous presence in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 At any point India has anything between 5-8 Chinese Navy units, be it warships or research vessels and a host of Chinese fishing vessels operating in the IOR.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0For instance, China now has a base in Djibouti and has been involved in the development of various ports in the IOR, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan and so many other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Hence, India has to maintain a high level of operational preparedness at all times whatever be the situation and the importance of infrastructure development, especially along the northern borders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>On the experience with Russian equipment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They were reliable and while there had been teething issues with some of the systems but India have received good support from Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Some technologies which India have not been able to get from any other sources, Russia has been able to support us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Indian Navy\u2019s lead in indigenisation efforts: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 29 ships commissioned in the past seven years were constructed in India, and 38 out of 40 ships presently under construction were also being built at Indian shipyards. The aim of the Navy is to be fully atma nirbhar by 2047.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Lessons from the Ukraine War:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was easy to start a war, but a major challenge is to terminate it.
