The tomistoma (<\/span>Tomistoma schlegelii<\/span><\/i>) is a large, slender-snouted crocodilian species native to southeast Asia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is also called \u2018<\/span>False <\/b>Gharial\u2019.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

It is distributed across parts of Borneo (divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei), peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a freshwater species and is frequently associated with peat swamp forest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It shares its habitat with two other types of crocodilians \u2014 the saltwater crocodile and the Siamese crocodile.<\/p>\n

IUCN Status<\/b>: Vulnerable<\/p>\n

Why is Tomistoma attacking humans?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Tomistoma is a shy and reclusive species that typically retreat from areas with a high degree of human activity.<\/span><\/p>\n
