Better precision and accuracy. Eg: Robotic radio surgery<\/li>\n<li>Better speed<\/li>\n<li>Not affected by surrounding environment<\/li>\n<li>Replace humans in repetitive, tedious tasks<\/li>\n<li>Better user experience through predictive technology e.g. Help in predicting what a user will type, ask, search, and do. Can easily act as assistants and recommend actions.<\/li>\n<li>Interact with humans for entertainment or a task. E.g. Sophia robot<\/li>\n<li>Logical \u2013 devoid of emotions. Can make rational decisions with less or no mistakes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Disadvantages:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Initial cost too high<\/li>\n<li>Cannot take decisions if they encounter a situation unfamiliar to them.<\/li>\n<li>Repair costs are high<\/li>\n<li>May lead to destruction, if put in the wrong hands. providing real-time advisory, early detection of pest attacks, prediction of crop prices, precision farming etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PEAT \u2013 Machine Vision for Diagnosing Pests \/ Soil Defects<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Berlin-based agricultural tech start-up PEAT has developed a deep learning application called <strong>Plantix<\/strong> that reportedly identifies potential defects and nutrient deficiencies in soil.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CROPTIX- diagnose crop diseases in the field and alert rural farmers in Kenya<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is a new mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to accurately diagnose crop diseases in the field<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Microsoft -ICRISAT AI Sowing App: <\/span>The app sends sowing advisories to participating farmers on the optimal date to sow<\/li>\n<li><strong>Healthcare:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Can be used in diagnosis, treatment design, imaging diagnosis, early detections of disease outbreaks, robot assisted surgeries, virtual nurse assistants etc.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sensely\u2019s \u201cMolly\u201d<\/span>&#8211; an AI-powered nurse used by UCSF and the UK\u2019s NHS to interact with patients<\/li>\n<li>Recently, researchers at an Oxford hospital developed AI that can diagnose scans for heart disease and lung cancer<\/li>\n<li><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Can be used for developing tools for customised learning, interactive and intelligent tutoring systems, and predicting tools- for example predicting dropouts<\/li>\n<li>Can also be used in developing automated teacher posting and transfer systems, using analytics based on demand \u2013 supply gaps across schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pearsons\u2019 WriteToLearn software:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It uses natural language processing technology to give students personalised feedback, hints, and tips to improve their writing skills<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Urban planning:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Can be used for optimizing infrastructure in cities, service delivery, crowd management, cyber security, public safety and water engineers have developed sewer-cleaning robots to put an end to manual scavenging<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Transportation:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Can be used in developing AI-based traffic management system including sensors, CCTV cameras, automatic number plate recognition cameras, speed detection cameras, signalised pedestrian crossings<\/li>\n<li>Can help in predictions in public transport journeys<\/li>\n<li>Can help in optimising parking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Intelligent traffic signals at Pittsburgh<\/p>\n<p>Smart parking garages in USA<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>Retail<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Can be used in customer demand anticipation, improved inventory management, \u00a0efficient delivery management, interaction with customers etc<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Japan\u2019s Pepper:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is a humanoid robot that can interact with customers and \u201cperceive human emotions\u201d.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>Manufacturing:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Can be used in supply chain management, predictive maintenance, logistics, and quality assurance<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">General Electric\u2019s Brilliant Manufacturing:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Designed to make the entire manufacturing process more efficient and thus reduce costs.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Energy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Can be used in energy system modelling, predictive analysis, demand and infrastructure management, renewable management, building energy efficient buildings, etc<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EWeLiNE, Germany:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It can work as an early-warning system for grid-operators to assist them in calculating renewable-energy output over the next 48 hours using AI<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong>Defence:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Areas of application of AI in defence
