Villagers here call it pancheraa, that which tears water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Threats:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a) Degradation of wetland and riverine habitats and b) the damming of the Chambal River, in upstream Rajasthan, has adversely affected its population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Initiatives:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 2020, the Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS) initiated a <strong>\u2018Guardians of the Skimmer\u2019 programme<\/strong>, which is a community-based conservation initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 BNHS in collaboration with Bird Count India has also initiated the \u2018Indian Skimmer Count\u2019-a a citizen science initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cThe strange case of the Indian skimmer\u201d published in The Hindu on 14th November 2022 What is the News?
