What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) has announced the setting up of India\u2019s first <\/span>Dark Sky Reserve<\/span><\/a> in Hanle, Ladakh. It will be located as part of Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It will boost Astro tourism in India and will be one of the world\u2019s highest-located sites for optical, infrared, and gamma-ray telescopes.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Located on: <\/b>Tibetan Changthang plateau in Ladakh.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lakes: <\/b>It has some of the highest-altitude lakes including Tso Moriri.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is also believed to include the world’s highest village, <\/span>Korzok Village<\/b> which draws tourists to the Korzok Monastery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fauna: <\/b>It is famous for being the home of the snow leopard. The Tibetan wolf, wild yak, bharal, brown bear, mormot, Tibetan wild ass and dark-necked crane are also found in the sanctuary.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
