The article below addresses some of\nthe&nbsp;<strong>Unanswered Questions<\/strong>&nbsp;of every aspirant regarding Mains\nAnswer writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How is it different from answering our university papers?<br>\nWhat should be done to score high?<br>\nHow should we start as a beginner?<br>\nHow to balance our approach in answers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lets see the above questions one by one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is it different from answering our graduation papers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WORD LIMIT<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In University theory papers one can write as much as he\/she\ncan. But in CSE-Mains, there is a<strong>&nbsp;fixed word limit<\/strong>&nbsp;and it is\nexpected from you that you would not cross that limit. The trick is that in\nUPSC, You have to touch every aspect of the question and have to frame it\nwithin that limit. Though this will be difficult in the beginning good practice\nwill help a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>QUALITY OF ANSWER<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In university paper, both matter but in CSE -quantity is\nfixed and&nbsp;<strong>quality only rules<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DYNAMISM<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In university exams questions are quite repetitive but in\nCSE ,No one knows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MOTIVE OF THE EXAMINER<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>University is better of passing you and sending you out &#8230;\nless work load, better statistical image.Government is better of keeping you\nout &#8230; coz if you are not knowledgeable and you get through you turn into a\nlong term liability<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What should be done to score high?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Answers\n should be<strong>&nbsp;multifaceted.<\/strong><\/li><li>Try\n and keep the introduction and conclusion&nbsp;<strong>very short<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Avoid\n reiteration<\/strong>&nbsp;of the similar thoughts<\/li><li>Use\n as&nbsp;<strong>many concepts<\/strong>&nbsp;as possible especially for your optional\n papers.<br>\n <strong>For example<\/strong>:-While writing about top down model of globalization or\n modernization One can use<em>&nbsp;Durkheims concepts of Anomie or Ogburn&#8217;s\n concept of Cultural Lag<\/em>. Or say while answering a question on\n grassroots democracy, one can write about Ambedkar and Gandhi&#8217;s debate<\/li><li>Give\n as&nbsp;<strong>many examples<\/strong>&nbsp;as possible to support your view. Try to\n have a&nbsp;<strong>contemporary relevance<\/strong>&nbsp;to you answer.<\/li><li>Write\n in&nbsp;<strong>very simple<\/strong>&nbsp;English, Academic jargons is not\n appreciated by UPSC.<\/li><li>Your\n answers need to be more&nbsp;<strong>dynamic and holistic<\/strong>. As UPSC says\n &#8220;The candidates must give&nbsp;<em>relevant, meaningful and succinct<\/em>&nbsp;answers.<\/li><li>Write\n answers directly;&nbsp;<strong>do not beat around the bush<\/strong>. Some&nbsp;<strong>punctuation<\/strong>&nbsp;marks\n like this one (;) play a crucial role.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How should we start as a beginner?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As a\n beginner starting from point zero one can buy&nbsp;<strong>previous years\n question paper<\/strong>&nbsp;module and attempt some questions daily, moreover\n the&nbsp;<strong>questions from NCERT<\/strong>&nbsp;too will help.<\/li><li>Start&nbsp;<strong>writing\n answers as and when you study<\/strong>, don\u2019t wait for the whole or even\n sufficient amount of syllabus to be finished.<\/li><li>Say\n you are studying polity and finished President, soon after, check previous\n years&#8217; papers on this topic and try to answer as many as you wish, you\n could<strong>&nbsp;pick a single question that is the easiest<\/strong>&nbsp;for you\n and start answering on a piece of paper.You might not be able to answer\n questions that involve president and the prime minister as you wouldn&#8217;t\n have covered the latter yet. You can skip such questions for later.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to balance our approach in answers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For\n a balanced answer that too within the specified word limit -you first need\n a reasonable level of&nbsp;<strong>knowledge base.<\/strong><\/li><li>First\n read and learn a topic. Attempt simple questions,&nbsp;<strong>Commit mistakes<\/strong>&nbsp;again\n and again while practising. Practice makes it perfect.<\/li><li>When\n a Question is asked to present your views try to give a generalist&#8217;s view.\n Sometimes you need not to&nbsp;<strong>give your suggestion<\/strong>, but you are\n expected to present existing facts in the present context.&nbsp;<strong>For\n e.g.<\/strong>&nbsp;Instead of writing&nbsp;<em>&#8216;I feel&#8217;,it is better to write\n &#8216;it is felt&#8230;.&#8217;.<\/em><\/li><li>If\n they are asking what innovation means, then a simple definition with\n one&nbsp;<strong>relevant example<\/strong>&nbsp;will be better rather than\n explaining it with lot of jargon\/theory\/models.<\/li><li>Also\n while writing for a particular paper do not think that you can write\n points from that particular syllabus only. Take a&nbsp;<strong>holistic view<\/strong>,\n broaden your outlook, Use relevant concepts\/knowledge from other subjects\n also.<\/li><li>Communication\n skill, command over a language etc are known as&nbsp;<strong>SOFT Skills<\/strong>.
