It includes making soil chemical free, saving soil productivity, enhancing SOM, maintaining soil moisture, mitigating soil degradation and preventing soil erosion.<\/p>\n<p>Government launched the<strong> Soil Health Card scheme<\/strong> in 2015. It displays the soil health indicators and guides farmers.<\/p>\n<p>Another initiative is the <strong>PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana<\/strong> to prevent <strong>soil erosion<\/strong>, and for <strong>rainwater harvesting<\/strong> and recharging of groundwater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture<\/strong> has schemes promoting <strong>traditional indigenous practices <\/strong>such as organic farming and natural farming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are initiatives taken by FAO in India for soil conservation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is collaborating with the <strong>National Rainfed Area Authority<\/strong> and <strong>Ministry of Agriculture<\/strong> to develop forecasting tools using <strong>data analytics<\/strong> that will aid vulnerable farmers in making <strong>informed decisions<\/strong> on crop choices.<\/p>\n<p>FAO in association with MoRD supports the <strong>DAY-NRLM Community Resources persons<\/strong> to increase their capacity towards supporting on-farm livelihoods for adoption of <strong>sustainable and resilient practices, organic certification and agri-nutri gardens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Andhra Pradesh, FAO is partnering with the state government and ICAR to support farmers in <strong>sustainable transitions<\/strong> to <strong>agro-ecological approaches<\/strong> and organic farming.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the way forward to reduce the soil degradation?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>There is a need to strengthen the <strong>communication channels<\/strong> between academia, policymakers and society for<strong> identification, management and restoration<\/strong> of degraded soil as well as adoption of anticipatory measures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greater cooperation and partnerships<\/strong> are central to ensure the availability of knowledge, sharing of successful practices and <strong>universal access<\/strong> to clean and sustainable technologies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source&#8211; The post is based on the article \u201cPoor soil management will erode food security\u201d published in The Hindu on 5th December 2022.
