{"id":217623,"date":"2022-12-08T20:24:36","date_gmt":"2022-12-08T14:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=217623"},"modified":"2022-12-08T20:24:36","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T14:54:36","slug":"ugc-forms-panel-to-work-on-textbooks-in-indian-languages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ugc-forms-panel-to-work-on-textbooks-in-indian-languages\/","title":{"rendered":"UGC forms panel to work on textbooks in Indian languages"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cUGC forms panel to work on textbooks in Indian languages\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>The Hindu <\/b>on<b> 8th December 2022<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University Grants Commission has held a meeting with international publishers to discuss bringing out textbooks for undergraduate courses in Indian languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About the panel for Undergraduate courses books in Indian Languages<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UGC has formed a panel to prepare the roadmap to introduce undergraduate courses in regional languages in disciplines including commerce, humanities and science across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The panel will prepare a list of books used in universities and colleges and review both lists to finalize the ones that can be translated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The books will be translated into languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This move is part of the Centre\u2019s plans to introduce regional languages as a medium of education in schools and colleges in line with the National Education Policy 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the steps taken to promote courses in regional languages?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE) has prepared 270 first-year engineering textbooks in 12 regional languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Home Minister has recently launched the first set of the first-year M.B.B.S. books in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bar Council of India has formed a panel headed by former Chief Justice of India S. A.
