A party may gain or lose national party status from time to time, depending on the fulfilment of these laid-down conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Criteria to be recognized as National Party:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A \u200b\u200bpolitical party would be considered a national party if: <\/span><b>a)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is \u2018recognised\u2019 as state party in four or more states; or <\/span><b>b) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if its candidates polled at least 6% of total valid votes in any four or more states in the last Lok Sabha or Assembly elections and have at least four MPs in the last Lok Sabha polls; or<\/span><b> c)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if it has won at least 2% of the total seats in the Lok Sabha from not less than three states.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the current National Parties?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of now, the ECI has recognised eight parties as national parties \u2014 the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, CPI(M), CPI, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and National People\u2019s Party(NPP) which was recognised in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the criteria for recognition as a State Party?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/jjp-gets-state-party-status\/\"><b>Click Here to read<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cAfter Gujarat results, AAP set for upgrade: What it takes to become a \u2018national party\u2019 in India\u201d published in Indian Express on 9th December 2022 What is the News?
