What are Multi State Cooperatives?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

According to the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), cooperatives are people-centred <\/strong>enterprises jointly owned and democratically controlled by and for their members. It realises their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Multi-State cooperatives are societies that have operations in more than one State \u2014 for instance, a farmer-producers organisation which procures grains from farmers from multiple States.<\/p>\n

What are the problems faced by the Multi State Cooperatives?<\/strong><\/h5>\n
    \n
  1. Lack of checks and balance<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Weak institutional infrastructure <\/strong>of central registrar<\/li>\n
  3. Poor management of grievances redressal system<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    What are the key changes in the Bill?<\/strong><\/h5>\n
      \n
    1. The amendments have been introduced to improve governance<\/strong>, reform the electoral process<\/strong>, strengthen monitoring mechanisms<\/strong> and enhance transparency and accountability.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. The Bill also seeks to improve the composition<\/strong> of the board and ensure financial discipline<\/strong>, besides enabling the raising of funds in multi-State cooperative societies.<\/li>\n
    3. The Bill provides for the creation of a central Co-operative Election Authority<\/strong> to supervise the electoral functions of the MSCSs.<\/li>\n
    4. It also envisages the creation of a Co-operative Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Development Fund <\/strong>for the revival of sick multi-State co-operatives societies.<\/li>\n
    5. In order to make the governance of multi-State cooperative societies more democratic<\/strong>, the Bill has provisions for appointing a Cooperative Information Officer and a Cooperative Ombudsman.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
