The robot\u2019s AI uses images to identify the type of foram and sorts it accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Currently, physical inspection and sorting of forams require human time and effort. With an accuracy rate of 79%, Forabot automates this tedious process.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Foraminifera?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foraminifera (forams) are very simple microorganisms that secrete a tiny shell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have existed on the ocean floor for more than 100 million years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Importance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Different types of foram species thrive in the ocean environment. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They leave behind their shells when they die.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examining these shells gives scientists an insight into the characteristics of the oceans from a time when the forams were alive.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cFossil-sorting robot to make it easier to study oceans, climate\u201d published in Down To Earth on 15th December 2022 What is the News?
