{"id":219310,"date":"2022-12-21T19:26:43","date_gmt":"2022-12-21T13:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=219310"},"modified":"2022-12-21T19:26:43","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T13:56:43","slug":"fifth-scorpene-class-submarine-vagir-delivered-to-navy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/fifth-scorpene-class-submarine-vagir-delivered-to-navy\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifth Scorp\u00e8ne-class submarine Vagir delivered to Navy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cFifth Scorp\u00e8ne-class submarine Vagir delivered to Navy\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b>\u00a0The Hindu on 20th December 2022<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fifth Scorp\u00e8ne-class conventional submarine, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vagir<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was delivered to the Navy by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited(MDL).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is INS Vagir?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INS Vagir is the fifth submarine under Project 75 for the Indian Navy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is Project \u2013 75?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project \u2013 75 includes the construction of six submarines of Scorpene design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Built by:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These submarines are being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M\/s Naval Group, France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Six submarines:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The first submarine INS\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kalvari<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was commissioned in 2017, second submarine INS\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Khanderi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2019, third one INS\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karanj<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2021 and the fourth one INS\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vela<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> joined service in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 The sixth Scorp\u00e8ne-class submarine, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vagsheer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was launched in April 2022 and is expected to be delivered to the Navy by end 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Features: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This class of submarines have Diesel Electric transmission systems and are attack submarines also known as the \u2018hunter-killer\u2019 type, which means they are designed to target and sink adversary naval vessels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 They also have the capability of operating in a wide range of Naval combat including anti-warship and anti-submarine operations, intelligence gathering and surveillance and naval mine laying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 The submarines can reach the highest speeds of 11 knots when surfaced and 20 knots when submerged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How many submarines does the Indian Navy have currently?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Navy currently has 15 conventional and one nuclear submarine in service.It includes seven Russian Kilo class submarines, four German HDW submarines, four Scorpene class submarines and the indigenous nuclear ballistic missile submarine INS <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arihant<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cFifth Scorp\u00e8ne-class submarine Vagir delivered to Navy\u201d published in\u00a0The Hindu on 20th December 2022 What is the News?
