What are important changes happening across the world?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

The world was able to overcome the threat of COVID-19 due to vaccination efforts. Normalcy has been restored.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the month of February, the world witnessed the <\/span>Russia-Ukraine war<\/span><\/b>. The <\/span>retaliatory <\/span>economic sanctions and weaponization of trade <\/span><\/b>have triggered inflation, recession and gas shortage in winter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The era of <\/span>innovative consumer technologies<\/span><\/b> from America and Europe, mass-produced in Taiwan, Korea and Japan, and consumed in China, Brazil and India, seems to be nearing its end. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

America is now championing <\/span>trade restrictions<\/span><\/b> against its enemies. It is promoting<\/span> trading blocs<\/span><\/b> among its allies and incentivising domestic production through large financial assistance. The era of trusted free trade among nations seems to be over. <\/span>\u2018Economic nationalism\u2019 <\/span><\/b>is being promoted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the reason behind the aggressive behaviour of China in recent times?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

China\u2019s advances into Indian territory are both <\/span>undeniable and unacceptable<\/span><\/b>. The timing and rationale of China\u2019s military threat have a<\/span> larger motive<\/span><\/b> than just territorial gains.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

China has managed the <\/span>realignment of the world order<\/span><\/b> through the <\/span>strategic use of debt diplomacy, economic power and a \u2018common enemy\u2019 doctrine<\/span><\/b>. It marks a fundamental reshaping of global forces.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is needed to counter Chinese aggression?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Trade restrictions and economic sanctions against China by western powers will backfire. The counter to <\/span>Sino-centric world order<\/span><\/b> is an economically powerful India.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The strong manufacturing sector in India is the strongest response to China. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What should be the way forward for faster development of the Indian state?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Social front<\/span><\/b>– <\/span>Social harmony<\/span><\/b> is a necessary condition for India\u2019s rise as an economic power. Factories cannot afford to differentiate amongst people of multiple identities working together.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Defence and foreign affairs<\/span><\/b>– There is a need to modernise and augment our defence capabilities with state-of-the-art weaponry. India should not continue with <\/span>conventional military purchase norms and processes<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The established <\/span>foreign policy doctrine of non-alignment<\/span><\/b> may not be conducive to India\u2019s growing need for trade and market access in the <\/span>new economic world order<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India needs a <\/span>bolder geo-economic strategy<\/span><\/b> to gain <\/span>preferential access<\/span><\/b> to unique technologies and capital from other nations in return for domestic market access.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Political front<\/span><\/b>– India\u2019s political landscape will need reforms. Traditional tools of <\/span>welfare and governance<\/span><\/b> have not worked well and the gap between the rich and poor have widened further.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u2019s <\/span>political governance mode<\/span><\/b>l<\/strong> needs greater <\/span>decentralisation and federalism reforms<\/span><\/b> to cater to widening divergence among States. The time has now come to move away from a <\/span>\u2018one nation one policy\u2019 <\/span><\/b>mindset.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stronger institutions<\/span><\/b> are a necessary condition for greater<\/span> decentralisation<\/span><\/b>. Reforming public institutions with more powers, autonomy, resources and accountability is essential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Economic front<\/span><\/b>– India\u2019s economic road map will have to factor in<\/span> environmental concerns<\/span><\/b>. It needs to move away from the <\/span>monopolies model<\/span><\/b> of private enterprise and create a new <\/span>inclusive, employment-intensive<\/span><\/b> economic development model.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is time to re-imagine India\u2019s overall strategy and re-evaluate our n<\/strong><\/span>ormative<\/strong> policy framework<\/span><\/b>.
