{"id":2210,"date":"2019-03-06T16:30:03","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T11:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=2210"},"modified":"2019-03-06T16:30:03","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T11:00:03","slug":"trade-union-issues-charter-of-demands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/trade-union-issues-charter-of-demands\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade Union issues charter of demands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>10 central trade unions, except the Bharatiya\nMazdoor Sangh have adopted a 15-point charter of demand at the National\nConvention of Workers.<\/li><li>One of the major demand is fixing national minimum\nwages as per the recommendations of the 15th Indian Labour Conference and\nSupreme Court\u2019s judgment in the Raptakos and Brett case. In 1957, the 15th\nSession of the Indian Labour Conference emphasised that \u201cminimum wage should be\nneed-based in order to ensure minimum human needs of the industrial workers\u201d. In\n1992, the Supreme Court of India ruled in Raptakos Brett case that children&#8217;s\neducation, medical requirement, minimum recreation, including\nfestival\/ceremonies and provision for old age and marriage should further constitute\n25% of the total minimum wage and used as a guideline in determining minimum\nwages.<\/li><li>The charter also called for minimum support\nprice for produce to be decided as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan\nCommission. It also demanded that the public procurement system should be strengthened.\nThe Swaminathan Commission had recommended that MSP should be at least 50% more\nthan the weighted average cost of production.<\/li><li>Other demands included a) abolition of\n\u201cfixed-term employment\u201d and contract labour for jobs of a perennial nature, b) minimum\npension of Rs.6000 per month, c) comprehensive legislation covering social\nsecurity and working conditions for all workers, d) stopping disinvestment\/strategic\nsale of public sector undertakings, e) strict implementation of the existing\nlabour laws, f) an end to anti-worker labour reform, g) check unemployment through\nrobust policies.<\/li><li>A trade union is an organisation formed by\nworkers that work for the common interest of its members. Trade Unions act as\nthe medium of communication between the workers and management.
