So far, 175 species of birds have been spotted in Silent Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Silent Valley National Park<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silent Valley National Park is located in <\/span><b>Palakkad district in Nilgiri Mountains of Kerala.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was declared as a <\/span><b>National Park in 1984<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and formally inaugurated in the year 1985.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park is located in the rich biodiversity of <\/span><b>Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Mukurthi peak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the fifth-highest peak in South India and<\/span><b> Anginda peak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are also located in its vicinity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Bhavani River, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a tributary of Cauvery River originates in the vicinity of Silent Valley.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park harbors a viable population of <\/span><b>Lion-tailed macaques<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which also is the flagship species of the Park.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park is one of the <\/span><b>last undisturbed tracts of South Western Ghats mountain rain forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and tropical moist evergreen forests in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plans for a hydroelectric project that threatened the park&#8217;s biodiversity led to an environmentalist social movement in the 1970s, known as the<\/span><b> Save Silent Valley movement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which resulted in cancelling the project and creating the park in 1980.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cSilent Valley bird species\u2019 number goes up to 175\u201d published in The Hindu on 5th January 2023 What is the News?
