A rare species of duck,<\/span> Greater Scaup locally known as <\/b>Sadangman<\/b>, <\/b>was <\/span>sighted in Loktak lake in Manipur\u2019s Bishnupur district<\/span> after a gap of over 90 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Greater Scaup?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Greater Scaup is a medium-sized diving duck species that belongs to the family of Anatidae.<\/span><\/p>\n

IUCN Status: <\/b>Least Concern<\/span><\/p>\n

Geographical distribution<\/b>: It <\/span>is distributed in Asia, Europe, the United States, and Canada. It is a rare visitor to the Indian Subcontinent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Greater Scaup inhabits shallow, freshwater lakes, pools and rivers with grassy shorelines.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are highly migratory, breeding near arctic regions and migrating to the warmer south from August onwards.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is known as Scaup in Europe and Bluebill in North America, Greater Scaup breeds in Alaska, Siberia, north Canada and on the eastern side of Europe and they flock to warmer regions during the Winter season.<\/span><\/p>\n
