About Cheetah\u2019s Reintroduction Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n

In India, the Cheetah\u2019s population got completely wiped out in the early 1950s, mainly due to over-hunting and habitat loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the \u2018Action Plan for Reintroduction of Cheetah in India\u2019, cheetahs will be brought from African countries to various national parks over the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many Cheetah\u2019s will be sent to India from South Africa?<\/b><\/h2>\n

As per agreement, 12 Cheetah\u2019s will be translocated to India from South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cheetah\u2019s will be <\/span>reintroduced at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, where eight such cats were brought from Namibia in 2022 under a similar agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n

The initial batch of cheetahs from South Africa will be followed by the transport of batches of 12 annually for the next \u201ceight to 10 years\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Restoring cheetah populations is considered to be a priority for India.<\/span><\/p>\n
