{"id":226362,"date":"2023-02-13T19:51:51","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T14:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=226362"},"modified":"2023-02-22T10:46:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T05:16:42","slug":"g-20-tourists-can-use-upi-at-select-indian-airports-how","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/g-20-tourists-can-use-upi-at-select-indian-airports-how\/","title":{"rendered":"G-20 tourists can use UPI at select Indian airports: How?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cG-20 tourists can use UPI at select Indian airports: How?\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>Indian Express <\/b>on <b>13th February 2023.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reserve Bank of India(RBI) has permitted all inbound travellers from the Group of Twenty (G-20) countries and non-resident Indians to access <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/what-is-unified-payments-interface-upi\/#:~:text=and%20Test%20Copies-,What%20is%20Unified%20Payments%20Interface%20(UPI)%3F,Corporation%20of%20India%20(NPCI).\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unified Payment Interface (UPI) <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for their merchant payments (P2M) at select airports while they are in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What has been announced by the RBI?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Banks and non-banks authorized to issue <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rbi-launches-prepaid-payment-instrument-for-your-daily-digital-payments\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prepaid payment instruments (PPIs),<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can issue rupee-denominated full-KYC PPIs to foreign nationals and NRIs visiting India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such PPIs can also be issued in a co-branding arrangement with entities authorized to deal in foreign exchange under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The PPIs can be issued in the form of wallets linked to UPI \u2014 like Google Pay and PhonePe \u2014 and can be used for merchant payments (P2M) only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loading and reloading of such PPIs will be against receipt of foreign exchange by cash or through any payment instrument.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Who can utilize this system?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start with, this facility will be extended to travellers from the G-20 countries, arriving at select international airports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going forward, this facility will be enabled across all other entry points in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How will the PPIs be issued?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The PPIs can be issued after physical verification of the Passport and Visa of the customers at the point of issuance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conversion to the Indian rupee can be carried out only by entities authorized to deal in foreign exchange under FEMA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unutilised balances in such PPIs can be encashed in foreign currency or transferred \u2018back to source\u2019 (payment source from where the PPI was loaded), in compliance with foreign exchange regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cG-20 tourists can use UPI at select Indian airports: How?\u201d published in Indian Express on 13th February 2023.
