{"id":229244,"date":"2023-03-01T19:34:31","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=229244"},"modified":"2023-03-01T19:34:31","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:04:31","slug":"meity-launches-grievance-appellate-committee-which-will-investigate-users-plaints-about-content-in-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/meity-launches-grievance-appellate-committee-which-will-investigate-users-plaints-about-content-in-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"MeitY launches Grievance Appellate Committee which will investigate users\u2019 plaints about content in social media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cMeitY launches Grievance Appellate Committee which will investigate users\u2019 plaints about content in social media\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>PIB on 29th February 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minister of State for Electronics &amp; Information Technology has launched the Grievance Appellate Committee(GAC).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the Grievance Appellate Committee(GAC)?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) is established under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 made under the Information Technology Act, 2000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GAC aims to ensure a Safe &amp; Trusted and Accountable Internet for Indian users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GAC deals with the appeals of users (Digital Nagriks) aggrieved by decisions of Grievance Officers of social media intermediaries and other intermediaries on complaints of users or victims against violation of the IT Rules and any other matters pertaining to the computer resources made available by the intermediaries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GAC is an online dispute resolution mechanism.The entire appeal process, from filing to decision is in digital mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DigitalNagriks can file an appeal with the GACs within a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of communication from the intermediary\u2019s Grievance Officer.This Committee will subsequently endeavour to address the user\u2019s appeal within a period of 30 days.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cMeitY launches Grievance Appellate Committee which will investigate users\u2019 plaints about content in social media\u201d published in PIB on 29th February 2023 What is the News?
