{"id":229251,"date":"2023-03-01T19:31:59","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=229251"},"modified":"2023-03-01T19:31:59","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:01:59","slug":"report-karnataka-gujarat-making-most-progress-in-shift-to-clean-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/report-karnataka-gujarat-making-most-progress-in-shift-to-clean-power\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Karnataka, Gujarat making most progress in shift to clean power"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cReport: Karnataka, Gujarat making most progress in shift to clean power\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>Indian Express on 28th February 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis(IEEFA) along with EMBER has released a report \u2014 \u2018Indian States Energy Transition\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the purpose of the report?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report has <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analyzed a total of 16 Indian states which account for 90% of the country&#8217;s annual power consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has measured the performance of these states in four dimensions: 1) decarbonisation 2) performance of the power system 3) readiness of the power ecosystem and 4) policies and political commitments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These dimensions help in tracking how much a state is prepared to shift away from fossil-fuel based power plants, its capability to incentivise the green market and its government policy to push for power sector decarbonisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the key findings of the report?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Top State in clean electricity transition: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karnataka is the only state among the 16 analyzed states that scored well across all four dimensions of clean electricity transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 It has been an early adopter of renewable energy through proactive policies around open access, solar park development and public awareness.The state fared the best in decarbonising its power sector and has the highest share of renewables in its power supply mix(48%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Other states:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Gujarat was a little behind Karnataka in terms of decarbonising its electricity sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Rajasthan is second only to Karnataka with renewables supplying 29% of the state\u2019s power mix.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Maharashtra with the highest power demand in India was found to be mid-table mainly due to slow renewable energy uptake in the state and the inability to shut down older polluting coal power plants.Its renewable energy share(11%) is lower than most other states.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cReport: Karnataka, Gujarat making most progress in shift to clean power\u201d published in Indian Express on 28th February 2023 What is the News?
