What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution have said that all states should implement SMART-PDS at the earliest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Automation of Fair Price Shops,<\/b><\/p>\n

Direct Benefit Transfer (Cash):<\/b> where food subsidy is directly credited to the account of the beneficiaries,<\/span><\/p>\n

Aadhaar Seeding in PDS: <\/b>To weed out duplicate\/in-eligible\/bogus ration cards and to enable rightful targeting,<\/span><\/p>\n

Digital\/Cashless\/Less-cash Payments in fair price shops,<\/b><\/p>\n

End to end computerization<\/b> of food grain procurement, storage, transport, and distribution,<\/span><\/p>\n

One Nation One Ration Card<\/b><\/a> plan<\/b> was implemented to support the migrant population,<\/span><\/p>\n

Scaling up of <\/b>rice fortification<\/b><\/a>,<\/p>\n

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana(PMGKAY) <\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>amongst others.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

What are the steps recommended by the Union Minister for states to implement in PDS System?<\/b><\/h2>\n

SMART-PDS<\/b>: <\/span>It is a system where smart ration cards are issued to beneficiaries of the <\/span>Public Distribution System(PDS) <\/span><\/a>and ration is given through fair price shops on the production of the smart ration card by any member of the beneficiary family.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The fingerprint template of the beneficiary is recorded in these smart ration cards, which record all transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Command Control launched by Andhra Pradesh for PDS: <\/b>AP Government has launched \u200b\u200b<\/span>India\u2019s first-of-its-kind Central Command Control Centre to monitor the Public Distribution System (PDS) from procurement of grains to their distribution to households.<\/span><\/p>\n
