What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Researchers at the University of Rochester have created a new superconductor material called \u201cReddmatter\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is a room-temperature Superconductor?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Superconductors transmit electrical currents without resistance, which means no energy lost as electricity is sent from point A to point B.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But today\u2019s superconductors require extremely cold temperatures and high pressures to work, making them impractical anywhere outside special laboratories.<\/span><\/p>\n

If they could operate at room temperature, superconducting materials would no longer be relegated to the experimental realm and could be incorporated into the world\u2019s energy infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

But ever since superconductivity was discovered in 1911, science has not been able to crack the code on room-temperature superconductivity.<\/span><\/p>\n

What have the researchers created now?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Researchers <\/span>have created a new superconductor material called \u201cRed Matter”. It<\/span>\u00a0was formed by combining lutetium (a rare earth metal) with hydrogen and nitrogen.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the questions raised over this discovery?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Researchers have inferred that the material\u2019s electrical resistance had dropped to zero by collecting resistance data and then subtracting the contributions from sources other than the\u00a0<\/span>material.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
