A team of scientists has spotted Eurasian otters in the Neeru stream of the Chenab catchment.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Eurasian Otter?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Scientific Name:<\/b> Lutra lutra<\/span><\/p>\n

It is an<\/span> elusive, solitary otter that has one of the widest distributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Range:<\/b> Its range covers parts of three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa .<\/span>In India, <\/b>it is present in northern, northeast and southern India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Habitat:<\/b> In the Indian subcontinent, Eurasian otters occur in cold hills and mountain streams. During summer (April – June) in the Himalayas, they may ascend up to 3,660 m.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Neeru?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Neeru is a tributary of the Chenab river. It is a 30\u00adkm perennial stream that originates in the Kailash Lake at 3,900 meters above mean sea level and drains into the Chenab at Pul\u00adDoda.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fed by 13 major tributaries, Neeru flows through several small villages, semi\u00adurban and urbanized areas with Bhaderwah being the largest settlement.<\/span><\/p>\n
