What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Hyderabad-based Svaya Robotics has developed India\u2019s first indigenous quadruped (four-legged) robot and exoskeleton for the defence sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note<\/b>: India currently imports these robots from the US and Switzerland to help strengthen the country\u2019s defence capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are Quadruped robots?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Quadruped robots are four-legged robots which can walk or run on uneven and rough terrains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, in Leh, where soldiers have to navigate through unfavourable conditions, these robots can be used.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These are also useful in recognising terrorist activities and other unsafe locations and capturing the visuals which can be monitored from any part of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The robots developed can carry 25 kg in payload and walk along with the soldier. These robots can also be used in nuclear plants and other industries as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are exoskeletons?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Exoskeletons are wearable devices that work in tandem <\/span>with <\/span><\/i>the user. The opposite of an exoskeleton device would be an autonomous robot that works <\/span>instead<\/span><\/i> of the operator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exoskeletons are placed on the user\u2019s body and act as amplifiers that augment, reinforce or restore human performance. The opposite would be a mechanical prosthetic, such as a robotic arm or leg that replaces the original body part.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why have exoskeletons been developed?<\/b><\/h2>\n

It is developed to suit Indian soldiers\u2019 anthropometry and augment soldier strength for walking long distances.<\/span><\/p>\n

These active exoskeletons, when worn by soldiers, can carry heavy loads without expending much effort.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
