Global mean sea level increased by 0.20 [0.15\u20130.25] m between 1901 and 2018, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">c)<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Evidence of observed changes in extremes such as heat waves, heavy precipitation, droughts, and tropical cyclones, and, in particular, their attribution to human influence, has further strengthened since AR5.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lowered agricultural productivity<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: Although overall agricultural productivity has increased, climate change has slowed this growth over the past 50 years globally, with related negative impacts mainly in mid- and low-latitude regions but positive impacts in some high-latitude regions. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Adverse impact on health:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Climate-related food-borne, water-borne, and vector-borne diseases have increased. Some mental health challenges are associated with increasing temperatures, trauma from extreme events, and loss of livelihoods and culture.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Economic damages<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: It has been detected in climate-exposed sectors, such as agriculture, forestry, fishery, energy, and tourism. Individual livelihoods have been affected through, for example, destruction of homes and infrastructure, loss of property and income, human health and food security, with adverse effects on gender and social equity. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Impact on the urban ecosystem<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: Extreme and slow-onset catastrophes have damaged urban infrastructure, including transportation, water, sanitation, and energy systems, causing economic losses, service interruptions, and well-being issues. Reaching net zero CO2 or GHG emissions requires deep and rapid reductions in gross emissions of CO2, as well as substantial reductions of non-CO2 GHG emissions.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Need International cooperation:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> It is a critical enabler for achieving ambitious climate change mitigation, adaptation, and climate-resilient development. Climate-resilient development is enabled by increased international cooperation, including mobilizing and enhancing access to finance, particularly for developing countries, vulnerable regions, sectors, and groups, and aligning finance flows for climate action to be consistent with ambition levels and funding needs.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Need, effective, and equitable mitigation and adaptation actions<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: C<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">limate change increasingly threatens ecosystems, biodiversity, and the health and wellbeing of current and future generations. Accelerated mitigation and implementation of adaptation actions in the near term would reduce projected losses and damages for humans and ecosystems. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Find other avenue of finance:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Apart from public finance (includes the promised but never received $100 billion), other avenues including private finance, local finance, national and international, bilateral, and multilateral finance need to be explored.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Diversified knowledge<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: The strategies to counter climate change needed to be rooted in diverse values, including scientific knowledge, indigenous knowledge and local knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"3\"><strong>What are the suggestions provided by the IPCC&#8217;s Synthesis Report for India?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Incentivize investment<\/strong>: India needs to incentivize investment in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and natural gas to reduce emissions. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Strengthen its policy framework<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: Because its policy flip-flops have sharply curtailed renewable energy potential.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Relax import duties:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> The government needs to relax import duties on solar equipment imports and expand the Approved List of Modules and Manufacturers to accelerate the addition of solar capacity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Minimise the coal use<\/strong>: India needs to address its reliance on coal and work towards transitioning to cleaner energy sources.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"3\"><strong>Conclusion\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">IPCC Synthesis Report highlights the urgent need for rapid climate actions based on the principles of climate justice and equity.
