Astronomers have solved the mystery behind <\/span>Oumuamua.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Oumuamua?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Oumuamua is a comet. It is the first interstellar object found visiting our solar system.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was first detected by the University of Hawaii\u2019s Pan-STARRS1 telescope.<\/span><\/p>\n

What did this study find about <\/b>Oumuamua?<\/b><\/h2>\n

In 2018, a study suggested that \u200b\u200bOumuamua may have been an alien probe due to its unexpected behaviour such as 1)<\/strong> its <\/span>curious acceleration as it hurtled away from the sun<\/span> and 2)<\/strong> It <\/span>lacks the tail of gas and dust characteristic of many comets.<\/span><\/p>\n

But a recent <\/span>study has said that <\/span>Oumuamua was a comet<\/b>. Its speed-up was due to the release of hydrogen gas as the comet warmed up in the sunlight.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study has also found that<\/span> Oumuamua was born like many other comets as what is called a planetesimal \u2013 a small object formed in the early stages of planet formation \u2013 and was essentially a large, icy space rock.<\/span><\/p>\n

After it was somehow ejected from its solar system of origin, the comet\u2019s chemistry changed as it was bombarded by high-energy radiation while venturing through interstellar space.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This converted some of the comet\u2019s ice \u2013 frozen water \u2013 into hydrogen gas that was trapped within the rest of its ice.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
