Treatment involves taking multiple injections of insulin daily, lifelong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to data from the International Diabetes Federation Atlas 2021, India has the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">world\u2019s highest number of children and adolescents living with Type I Diabetes Mellitus(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TIDM) at over 2.4 lakh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-managing-type-1-diabetes\/#:~:text=What%20is%20Type%2D1%20Diabetes%3F&amp;text=Type%201%20diabetes%20is%20a,other%20cells%20of%20the%20body.\"><b>Click here to read more<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the guidelines issued by NCPCR to states on Type 1 Diabetes(T1D)?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, CBSE issued a circular allowing children with T1D in Classes X and XII to carry certain eatables with them to the board examination hall, to prevent the occurrence of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hypoglycaemia or low sugar episodes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NCPCR has said that more such concessions should be granted to all children with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T1D in schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per NCPCR, a child with T1D who requires a mid-afternoon snack should be permitted\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the class teacher to consume it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those writing exams may be allowed to carry medicines, snacks and water with them, a glucometer and glucose testing strips to test blood sugar and continuous\/flash glucose monitoring devices or insulin pumps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NCPCR has also appealed to States that in case a smartphone is required to monitor sugar levels, it should be allowed and can be held by the invigilator in the hall.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cNCPCR writes to States to introduce concessions for children with Type 1 diabetes in schools\u201d published in The Hindu on 29th March 2023 What is the News?
