What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

A <\/span>Fernarium has been set up inside the Eravikulam National Park(ENP). This is the first time such a fern collection has been established in the hill station.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Eravikulam National Park(ENP)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Located in:<\/b> Kerala<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the first National Park in Kerala. It was declared as a <\/span>National Park in 1978.<\/b><\/p>\n

It is situated in the<\/span> Kannan Devan Hills of the southern Western Ghats.<\/b><\/p>\n

The highest peak in South India\u2013 <\/span>The Anamudi <\/b>(2695 meters) is situated in this park.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is also the\u00a0land of \u201cNeelakurinji\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0the flower that blooms once in twelve years.<\/p>\n

The park is a natural habitat of <\/span>Nilgiri tahr.<\/b><\/p>\n

What are Ferns?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Ferns are part of the Epiphytic family. They grow naturally in a soilless condition. The <\/span>plants obtain water and nutrients through leaching from trees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: <\/b>E<\/span>piphyte also called air plant is <\/span>any plant that grows upon another plant or object merely for physical support<\/span><\/em>.
