{"id":238064,"date":"2023-04-15T20:23:45","date_gmt":"2023-04-15T14:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=238064"},"modified":"2023-04-17T14:19:09","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T08:49:09","slug":"e-prosecution-portal-home-ministry-develops-online-module-for-timely-disposal-of-criminal-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/e-prosecution-portal-home-ministry-develops-online-module-for-timely-disposal-of-criminal-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"E-Prosecution portal: Home Ministry develops online module for timely disposal of criminal cases"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cHome Ministry develops online module for timely disposal of criminal cases\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>The Hindu <\/b>on <b>15th April 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) e-prosecution portal has added a new feature that will fix the accountability of government lawyers.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system will send alerts to senior officers whenever a public prosecutor seeks a stay in a criminal case more than twice.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is an E-Prosecution<\/b><b> portal?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The E-Prosecution portal is managed by the Government of India under the Digital India Mission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The portal facilitates communication between the police department and the prosecution directorate as part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/government-approves-implementation-of-inter-operable-criminal-justice-system-icjs-project-during-the-period-2022-23-to-2025-26\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It links and enables the seamless transfer of data and information among different pillars of the criminal justice system \u2014 such as courts, police, jails and forensic science laboratories \u2014 from one platform.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the other steps being taken to strengthen the criminal justice system?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Home Affairs is working to <\/span><b>overhaul the British-era Indian Penal Code. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the changes being considered was making the collection of forensic evidence compulsory in criminal cases punishable by more than six years in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry also tracks investigations into sexual assault cases across the country, every\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two months through its analytics tool, the <\/span><b>Investigation Tracking System for Sexual\u00a0<\/b><b>Offences. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This system was launched in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018 amended Section 173 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to provide for the completion of investigation in rape cases within two months.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cHome Ministry develops online module for timely disposal of criminal cases\u201d published in The Hindu on 15th April 2023 What is the News?
