The species has been named \u2018Garra Laishrami\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Garra Laishrami?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garra Laishrami is a rare freshwater fish species found in the Kolab river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species was named after Dr Laishram Kosygin of the ZSI to honour his remarkable contributions to understanding the taxonomy of Indian freshwater fishes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Characteristics: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The species is edible and local people consume it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Besides, this fish is usually found under rocks, stones and boulders of torrential streams and rivers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kolab River<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kolab River is one of the major rivers of Odisha.
