India is a global Agri export powerhouse<\/strong> with a large and growing food production and processing sector.<\/p>\n

India has, in recent years, acted as a humanitarian provider<\/strong> of food to developing countries. It has demonstrated its evolving role in advancing regional and global food security. <\/strong><\/p>\n

India has also made major budgetary outlays<\/strong> towards setting up massive food parks, with due emphasis on modern supply chain management. <\/strong><\/p>\n

India Public Distribution System<\/strong> is the world\u2019s largest food subsidy programme. It provides nearly 800 million citizens with subsidized grains. India\u2019s POSHAN Abhiyaan i<\/strong>s the world\u2019s largest nutrition programme for children and women.<\/p>\n

As a part of its G\u00ad20 presidency, India is promoting the consumption and farming of millets \u2014 nutritious, drought resistant, sustainable, crops<\/strong>. It demonstrates the resilience focus <\/strong>that India offers to the global food security dialogue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

India\u2019s G\u00ad20 presidency seeks to address the three Cs of \u201cCovid, Conflict, and Climate\u201d<\/strong> issues. These are important for food security<\/strong> in India and across the globe.<\/p>\n

What are the areas of cooperation between India and UAE in the food sector?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

India has vast food sector experience and the ability to operationalize the world\u2019s largest food supply chains<\/strong>. It will strengthen the India\u00ad-UAE food security partnership<\/strong> in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n

During the India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States summit last year, the UAE committed $2 billion in investment towards constructing food parks in India.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was signing of a food security corridor<\/strong> on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement sidelines. It has taken forward India\u2019s presence on the global food value chain, <\/strong>beyond the UAE.<\/p>\n

The corridor could commence a route for foods<\/strong> made and processed in India. These products will begin their journey on the Indian coast of the Arabian Sea, passing through the UAE, and towards major international markets.<\/p>\n

The corridor will emerge as a world class template<\/strong> of successful Agri trade <\/strong>for India. It will unlock greater productivity, efficiency and growth<\/strong> for its millions of workers and employees.<\/p>\n

For the UAE, the benefits go beyond maintaining and diversifying<\/strong> its food reserves. Trade linkages <\/strong>could enable the UAE to leverage its strategic location<\/strong> between Asia and Europe to serve as India\u2019s food export gateway to West Asia and the Africa region.<\/p>\n

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre launched Agriota, an Agri trading and commodity platform <\/strong>to link Indian farmers to food companies in the UAE. It gives millions of Indian farmers the opportunity to directly reach out to the entirety of the UAE\u2019s food ecosystem.<\/p>\n

A consortium of UAE \u00adbased entities are investing up to $7 billion in mega food parks, contract farming and the sourcing of agro commodities in India.<\/p>\n

Those projects will generate lakhs of non farm agri jobs<\/strong>. It will enable farmers to discover better prices for their products. Bolstered by the UAE\u2019s infrastructural capabilities, <\/strong>India\u2019s agricultural products will have more resilient and diversified place<\/strong> in global marketplace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
